While those who can afford the time and money abandon Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year holiday, the rest of us can revel in the peace and quiet -- or join the crowds at these major events.
January 28: Market mania
Whatever your wish may be for the lunar new year, it can be symbolized by a beautiful, fragrant, fruit-bearing plant. Buy these at the numerous flower markets that open annually for the Chinese New Year rush.
Just remember the big three when picking species: peach blossoms for romance and longevity, kumquats for luck, narcissus for prosperity.
About 14 parks around Hong Kong will feature market stalls from January 28-February 2. They open from noon till midnight and go on until the wee hours of February 3.
